Teacher at an alternative high school in Colorado Springs
If you are comfortable in sharing..... What is your story of seeking/ knowing Jesus Christ?
I received Christ as a 4th grader on the same day my mom did... we discovered this when we ended up in the pastor's study, after church, together! I later rededicated my life as a junior in high school ! I also was blessed to have two godly grandmothers whose lives and example had a big impact on me... I helped to start a prayer/share group in high school, also and had the opportunity to work at a Christian camp for 3 summers. I attended Gordon College, a Christian liberal arts college in Massachusetts. I made several lifelong friends, and was influenced to pursue teaching/coaching as a career.
I taught in inner city schools in Brooklyn, NY for 11 years, which cahllenged me to daily depend on the LORD. I met my wife in the process, and together we have grown as we've faced career changes, several relocations, financial bumps, and several health challenges in our family !
Jesus has been, and is ever faithful to us, and has blessed us far above anything we could ask or imagine !!!
List any of your personal interests or hobbies so we can know you better
I love people !!! I love to meet, talk, interact, ask questions, and just get to know other people!
I enjoy sports of all kinds (both watching and participating). I especially enjoy participating in hiking, skiing, golfing, and occasionally softball and basketball.
Our family loves to take roadtrips. We often stop or get sidetracked, as I love history, and hate to travel the same way twice (unless we missed some good stuff the first time).
If married and or have any kids please tell us about them?
My wife is Debbie Maxwell Allen, a remarkable and talented lady (If I do say so myself)! She has been homeschooling for 13 years, is active in single parent ministry, leads a homeschool group in Teller County, is a trusted friend to a lot of other women, is a talented writer, and is one of the most frugal women west of the Mississippi !!! She's also my best friend, and is very patient with her peripatetic husband!!!
We have 5 children: our oldest son (Keith) is a chef.He came to live with us while he was in high school, and has been on his own for quite awhile.
Katie (17) is a writer and artist (like her mom), Bible scholar, book lover, and philosopher. She has a sharp and perceptive mind and a sincere heart! She loves to ask why things can't be solved, or be made better! She also loves to tease her dad!
Emily (15) is a pianist, singer, early childhood teacher/babysitter, with an unusual sense of humor (and also a lover of good writing). She also has her mom's good listening/empathy skills.
Daniel (almost 14) is good at designing and configuring all kinds of things. He's analytical, compassionate, and thoughtful as well. He's involved in target shooting, and also enjoys basketball. He loves to hang out with his younger brother, and other buddies who share his unique view of the world.
Jonathan (almost 12) is characterized by enthusiasm and sincerity. Whatever he decides to do, or is asked to do, he does with alacrity and vigor. He also loves to read, build things, and do almost any kind of sport (especially soccer, basketball, skiing, and anything "extreme").
If you are part of our community, what's your favorite thing about our fellowship?
We welcome people, who are (or have) been suffering the slings and arrows of life, with open arms. We have a desire to walk alongside them as brothers and sisters (who don't necessarily have all the answers) while trying to point them to Jesus !
What are you reading?
Anything by Liz Curtis Higgs, C.S. Lewis, Francine Rivers, John Grisham, Ted Dekker, Frank Peretti (most of his stuff), Oswald Chambers, Brock and Bodie Thoene, and David McCullough.
I love anything historical, especially biographies (the 920/921 section in the library). I'm also currently reading about the history of Colorado Springs and Cripple Creek (Spencer Penrose, General Palmer, etc).
What are you passionate about?
Jesus!
My wife !
My kids!
Helping broken, "throwaway" kids !
Sports of all shapes and sizes !
Meeting new people!
Exploring new places !
Talking,Hiking, walking, skiing, driving, golfing, reading, singing, and eating with enthusiasm !

Amber has just moved into a new place in Colorado Springs. She has a kitchen table & chairs, a bed (no headboard), A stuffed chair & AN end table, plus A dresser! Made for easy moving, but she could really use a few more pieces of furniture. Maybe a queen bed, dresser, a desk, couch......Thanks!See More
