Health Issues, Part Deux

Most of you who know me know that I struggle with rheumatoid arthritis. What you may not know is some of the background. Two years ago this past May I "retired" from nursing because my hands became too unreliable to even draw up a simple injection. Nursing was my life's work and I was heartbroken to leave the surgeon's I had worked with for many years. At that point I began the process of trying to get disability. What type of work do you do?
My husband and I own 3 pack and ship stores in Monument and Colorado Springs and I have 2 online stores as well where I sell books, knitting supplies, my knitting and the candles I make. I also work for Weight Watchers.
If you are comfortable in sharing..... What is your story of seeking/ knowing Jesus Christ?
II was raised in a Southern Baptist home and grew up knowing Jesus. When I was 22 I married a young man who was a Southern Baptist minister. We had one son together before he left the ministry and his family, then subsequently went home to be with the Lord in 1989 from an AIDS-related illness. I married Don in 2006 having met him at Woodmen Valley Chapel in Colorado Springs while singing on worship team. I retired from my nursing career in 2008 because of complications of rheumatoid arthritis. God has been faithful to me all my life and I am so thankful to have had parents who knew and acted upon the importance of teaching their children about the Love of the Lord. I firmly believe that God has a definite plan for each of his children and I am thankful to be counted as one of them. HOW GREAT IS OUR GOD!
List any of your personal interests or hobbies so we can know you better
hiking, singing, piano, knitting, reading, movies, music, family, white water rafting through the Royal Gorge.
If married and or have any kids please tell us about them?
Husband, Don Peterson. We've been married almost 3 years.
One son - Austin Jackson, age 29, who lives in Northern Virginia.
3 stepsons: Jacob, Josiah, and Jonathan Peterson. Jacob is at Yale University, and Josiah and Jonathan live in Hondo, Texas.
And one grandson, Marcus Edward Warner who lives in Northern Virginia
If you are part of our community, what's your favorite thing about our fellowship?
Trying to keep up with all the changes during worship. Go Todd!!!
What are you reading?
Right now I am reading a lot of knitting and ASL books. But I love to read anything by Jan Karon, Karen Kingsbury, Beverly Lewis and/or Jerry Jenkins.
What are you passionate about?
Singing, knitting, sign language. I started a group called Breanna's Blanket that has gone on the web at www.breannasblanket.com. We knit and crochet afghans for the residents and future residents of Breanna's House of Joy Orphanage in Chaing Mai, Thailand, where Matt Parker and his lovely wife are.

If Not for God...

Posted on May 2, 2010 at 5:21pm 0 Comments

If not for God I would be wandering hopelessly in a sea of confusion for my entire life.

If not for God I would have no purpose.

If not for God I would be desperately alone in this world.

All of these things spell our lives should we choose to live without God and the free gift of his son, Jesus: confusion, purposeless, desperation.

The last six months of our lives (Don and I) have seemed like a lot of wandering…

No Place Like Home

Posted on April 19, 2010 at 1:00pm 0 Comments

All of us remember when Dorothy clicked her ruby slippers together and said "there's no place like home..." The home that was my dream is now something out of "Nightmare on Elm Street".

Well we finally moved back home last week only to be hit with the following:

1) the landlords want us to pay them for all repairs

2) they also want us to pay for the new furnace, which was red tagged by Black Hills Energy before we ever moved in last October and we had not…

Prayers for Macy Grace

Posted on March 20, 2010 at 11:55am 0 Comments

Don and I have a little friend. Once she was a vivacious, precocious, active, beautiful, inquisitive, caring, hungry-for-life little girl. Now she is very ill.

Her name is Macy Grace Helm. Her parents are friends who live in Colorado Springs. Sometime last year Macy's parents, Brandon and Kelly, began to notice changes in Macy's behavior, eating habits, activities of daily living. A little time went by and she got sicker and sicker.

Macy was diagnosed with Pediatric Nephrotic… Continue

Hazel, I'm so glad you are coming to the retreat this weekend. We start Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at the church and then we'll be out at Camp Elim on Saturday. We have almost 40 women signed up so it should be a great time.

See you then.

I received your email regarding your son needing a few good Christian roommates. A good friend of mine has a son starting a youth pastor training course at New Life. I would like to pass along your name to them if is that is okay? The couple is Randy and Ragon Shaw, their son is Wade and he graduated from Woiodland Park High last year. They are a great family. My number is 3308442.

Hi Hazel,
I don't know if anyone has responded to you about the prayer shawl ministry, but we have a core prayer leadership team of a few folks that are passionate about growing prayer at WPCC and I'm on it. I love the idea of partnering up with you, I just don't know anything about a prayer shawl ministry and would love to hear more about it and see how this could be part of our community. I would be glad to take it to the prayer team and help it start to grow if possible.
Let me know your thoughts. Catch me Sunday or send a comment back.

Hi Hazel,
I was out of town last week so I am a little behind on things. I stopped by the TC jial today to see Austin, but today wasn't a visiting day (I didn't know that). I should have checked first, but I was out in that area and thought I would take a chance in stopping by. I probably should also have checked with you see how he is doing and what is the latest update. I have prayed for him and for you during this time. Let me know the latest. I could go on Monday if he is still there.
Blessings,
Bruce
