Dear faithful prayer warriors,

Well, second term is underway here at RVA, and it has started with a little more of a bang that expected.  At the beginning of last week, it was obvious that the virus that was circulating just the week before was really becoming rampant in the student body.  The sick lists that are sent to our email every day were rapidly growing.  Needless to say, the student health nurses have long been exhausted and overworked, as it still doesn't appear to be letting up.

In the midst of this, a student who was in the infirmary this past week was taken to the hospital this weekend, where she was tested for malaria.  She did test positive, and because her symptoms were quite like the flu virus that was infecting everyone else in student health, the disease progressed quite a bit before she was tested.  Her condition is very serious, and staff and student alike have been praying fervently throughout the weekend.

We ask that you join in prayer for this student, her parents, her doctors and nurses.  The parents are arriving tonight from their country of service, and are surely more than anxious to be with their daughter.  Pray that we as a community can support the family well this week, and beyond, if we are needed.

Pray also that the viral illness here at the school will quickly disappear this week, that the student health workers may be renewed in strength and spirit as the continue to care for an overflowing infirmary (the dorm below the student health building is now an extension to the infirmary).  All of this amidst a tough time of having a seriously ill student in the hospital.

Thank you,

Jim and Heather
