This discussion will be used by members of the Care and Prayer team to post information regarding current prayer and praise received from our current missionaries. Anyone, even our missionaries can also put current information here in this discussion. We desire to serve, encourage, and pray for our missionaries, and to that end any appropriate post that you add here will be appreciated.

To get the discussion started, I would like to tell you about the short-term trip to Waters Edge Church is Stansbury, Utah to visit Pete Kirchhoff and family. The trip was made by Howard & Kathy Lau, and childern Brandon and Jennifer, and John and Leanne Gilpin. The purpose of the trip was to encourage Pete and family as they continue to establish a new church. The August 16th weekend happened to be the Sunday that the chruch began meeting weekly, and praise the Lord, over 70 persons attended. While there we were able to help Pete staff a booth at the local Stansbury days celebration. Literature was handed out, and we were all able to help staff other events at the celebration as well. It was wonderful to be able to provide encouragement to the new church as on Sunday morning we all helped staff the childern's ministry.

Current prayer requests for the chruch and family include protection from spritual oppression, continued growth for the leadership of the chruch, and that those that are attending would have more consistancy in their attendance.

John, this is wonderful! I am so glad to hear of the news that you were an encouragement to Pete and his family in Utah, and their growing church there. This will definitely be a place I will follow as more and more folks post their prayer requests and praises from missions work. Thanks for getting this up and running!

Here are our prayer requests and praises from the month of December, as emailed to our prayer supporters:

Hello wonderful prayer supporters!

You may have noticed that we missed contacting you in November completely... let that be the first prayer request! As we get closer to our departure (late June!) life gets busier and busier. At times we really struggle with balance and perspective. Pray that we have the energy and enthusiasm to use our time so that it glorifies God, and that the "to-do's" fall into place in a way that is God-ordained and stress-minimizing! There is always plenty to do, which is teaching us to say "no", "later", and "alright, God, YOU have to make this work!" Good lessons for the mission field, we are sure!

So here's a complete list to add to the above request:

We are praising God for the time we got to spend with family and friends last month, as well as this month.

One of the special times we got to share with friends was a little unexpected. Our good friends Benjer and Jennifer McVeigh now live in Utah and welcomed their second daughter on October 26th. Ten days later, she was taken to the hospital where she spent four more weeks. I (Heather) had the honor to go and visit for a few days before Thanksgiving. You can read more on our blog, which is also linked to theirs. The praise is... Samantha is home! She arrived home on December 2nd and has settled in well. Pray that her health only improves, for provision for this family's needs and for a "normal" adjustment to being a family of four after this excitement.

We received word this evening from Jim's parent's church, Paonia Friends, that our support from them was approved. This means we jumped from 26% of our monthly funds pledged to 76%! This is an incredible blessing to us, and we are just praising the Lord for this partnership.

And please pray for:

For the past two years, Faith has battled a fungus problem with her feet. After trying over-the-counter creams for quite a while, we now have a prescription for her that contains steroids and will hopefully kick it... pardon the pun. :) Our main concern with this, other than her discomfort, is having open sores on her feet while we are in Kenya. "Bugs" are much more likely to enter her system through her feet in Kenya, so it would be nice to not have to worry about that.

Most importantly, please continue to pray for our marriage. That we can strengthen our bond in the next few months, while juggling everything here, so that when we enter into our move and those two months of transition to RVA we are strong support for each other, and for Faith and Joel.

Let us know how we can pray for you this month. We are so grateful to have all of you petitioning the Lord for us. We are humbled by your support and treasure your love. We do pray that this Christmas season has you eagerly awaiting the arrival of our Savior!

Blessings and love,
Jim and Heather
