Please read this blog post (below).
It's sarcasm/ satire. Obviously Don Miller's plumber isn't named Judas. But I love what he says, in a sideways way. He wrote this post in response to how christians expect christian artists to be "christian" in everything they do, and not 'cross-over' to anything secular. Miller is making a point about how we press artists to constantly write lyrics, paint pictures, and publish books that always at every moment "share the gospel." No room is left in christian art for 'non-spiritual' everyday stories and experiences.
It's the same tragic thing I see with 'evangelism'. Christian culture has pressed people to shove the "gospel message" into every situation with 'unsaved' people at all times. Instead we should be learning to be with people, and listen for when the Spirit is giving a prompt to speak the hope that is within us ... or not. Evangelism is about obedience in the moment, not behavior on a check list.
We've created these big performance expectations for ourselves and other christians about
how to act christian instead of
how to be human.
But, fact is, sometimes, we have to show up and just 'fix the pipes.' And that's ok.
