Speaking of Faith

Thanks for checking out FaithSpeak.

At Community, we desire to help people who are seeking, Find Jesus. That means we're paying attention to the relationships that are orbiting our lives -- and the everyday conversations that come with it. We aren't about quick & hard sales pitches. We are about following God's Spirit into honest spiritual friendships, questions, and conversation. So, when someone finally asks about your faith, what do you say?

This is the place to access help and resources for ...
telling your story,
ways to speak God's Big Story,
or places & groups for your seeking friends to engage in spritual conversation.
If you have questions or comments about speaking the bottom line of your faith ... this is the place.

Please check out Godspot the Blog. It's a new blog for your friends who are checking out your faith -- a great non-threatening first step to investigating Christian Spirituality. The link is on the group description (above) and attached below.

C.S. Lewis is my favorite author. I'll need to read that book.

Laura Parker posted this on her blog today. It's a great description of the hallway we all walk among people who do, and don't, share faith.

A Gentle Welcome

In my piles of the accumulated miscellaneous recently excavated from my bedroom, I rediscovered my copy of A Year with C.S. Lewis. While reading it yesterday, I came across this excerpt. I love the way Lewis welcomes any of us who are seeking spiritual things, love the imagery of the hallway and the doors, and love his challenge to choose a door based on more than just the appeal of its paint.

"It is more like a hall out of which doors open into several rooms. If I can bring anyone into that hall I shall have done what I attempted. But it is in the rooms, not in the hall, that there are fires and chairs and meals. The hall is a place to wait in, a place from which to try the various doors, not a place to live in. For that purpose the worst of the rooms (whichever that may be) is, I think, preferable. It is true that some people may find they have to wait in the hall for a considerable time, while others feel certain almost at once which door they must knock at. I do not know why there is this difference, but I am sure God keeps no one waiting unless He sees that it is good for him to wait. When you do get into your room you will find that the long wait has done you some kind of good which you would not have had otherwise. But you must regard it as waiting, not as camping. You must keep on praying for light; and, of course, even in the hall, you must begin trying to obey the rules which are common to the whole house. And above all you must be asking which door is the true one; not which pleases you best by its paint and panelling. In plain language, the question should never be: 'Do I like that kind of service?' but 'Are these doctrines true: Is holiness here? Does my conscience move me towards this? Is my reluctance to knock at this door due to my pride, or my mere taste, or my personal dislike of this particular door-keeper?'

When you have reached your own room, be kind to those who have chosen different doors and to those who are still in the hall. If they are wrong they need your prayers all the more; and if they are your enemies, then you are under orders to pray for them. That is one of the rules common to the whole house."

A FAITHSPEAK UPDATE:
Hi all... since it's been a while, I thought you might like an update of what's going on in Community.

New Life!
--Two women's 'seeker' groups are now 'discipleship' groups.
--Kirk is doing some new-believer discipleship until a more established program is in place.
--Since December, we have had the joy of experiencing 9 new Christ Followers express faith in Jesus Christ. Wow.

New Groups
--There is a new (small) men's Seeker Group happening on Sunday nights.
--And a new 6 Week women's discussion group is coming up in April.
There is so much great growth and God-sized movement happening all around us. Lots to be encouraged and thankful for!

New Event:
The upcoming Town Hall for Hope is also supposed to be a very open event for non-churchy friends who have concerns about the economy. This is a great time to bond around a common concern, even if we don't share a common faith. Check out the information on the Main Page ... and consider inviting a friend to the Town Hall for Hope.

Prayer:
Lastly, I want to encourage you to pray for the people that are orbiting your lives ... for me, that's something that so easily falls off my radar. But, no shame. If that's true for you, too, just pick it up again. And, pray for your people by name today.

Feel free to post anything that we can share with each other!
Press on, friends!

“Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving; meanwhile praying also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ …”Col. 4:2-3

A thought from Bill Hybels book " Just walk across the room": He encorages us to "live in 3D" > Develop friendships, Discover peoples stories, Discern appropriate next steps. All of this led by walking with the Holy Spirit, praying in the Spirit and talking and falling silent when He directs.
