After my first FPU class, I was determined to save some money. I called several businesses the next day. We switched our trash provider to Teller County Waste, which has free recycling and was offering 3 months free. I also called Direct TV and asked them if they had any offers for loyal customers, since they were currently offering specials for new customers. They are giving us a $16 credit each month for the next year. We got rid of our home long distance and now have the most basic phone service (which is bundled with Direct TV, so it saves us another $10 a month). I also called my cell phone provider and now pay $10 less a month, on top of the 18% discount I get for being a Woodland Park School district employee (yes, there are a few perks to being an educator). With all of those changes, we are saving approximately $75 a month, which adds up to $900 for the year. We are still looking for other ways to save, so please add any ways you have of saving!
