KInd of an interesting name for a discussion, huh? When I typed it in, I thought, "what DO we do for God?" We come to church, we tithe and give offerings, we go on mission trips, we sing, etc., etc., etc.

But what are some of the things we do just because it's the right thing to do?

About a year ago I made a friend of mine a prayer shawl when she was diagnosed with kidney cancer. I've been a nurse for a VERY long time and knew that this was rare and potentially extremely "hazardous to her health". So I wrung my hands, I cried out to God and I sat down with my knitting needles, which I do when I don't know what else to do with my hands and my mind. I can knit about as fast as I think, so I began to pray for my friend while I knit. I didn't really know what I was knitting, but it turned into a beautiful shawl that had a part of my heart emotionally attached to it.

My friend is the owner of a salon in Monument and I took the opportunity to take it to her the day after I completed it. She opened the package; she cried; I cried; all the ladies there cried. I told her about how I'd been praying for her while I diligently knitted this shawl for her to take to Tulsa to the cancer hospital.

It was then that I found out that there is a huge Prayer Shawl Ministry sweeping this country of ours. Since that time I have been graced with the presence of mind, the openness of heart and the use of my hands (I have rheumatoid arthritis) to knit many more of these shawls for people all over the USA.

I am amazed at how God can take something so simple as yarn and needles and combine it with the cry of a heart and bless someone's life with it.

Do you have a story of something small God has allowed you to do for his people, thus for him?

What comes to mind isn't what I've done, but what someone else did for me.

A few years ago I was at home, sick as a dog, and feeling pathetic. We lived in Divide a the time, and nobody just "drops by" when you live out there. Despite that, when Patty Daily heard I was sick, she did indeed DROP BY with a big pot of chicken soup. The soup was wonderful, but the fact that she drove all the way out there for no other reason than to bring me soup was remarkable. It was something small perhaps. But I saw the love of God.
The first thing I thought of was.."a hug." I just led a two day conference for 47 entrepreneurs...folks going against the grain of traditional 'employment.' They came to grow their dreams and get support for their challenges. It wasn't till after the event that I realized I must have hugged everyone there during the ending sessions. The feedback and testimonials that have come to me already are just...humbling. And in all honesty, I think it was the personal connection that caused the emotions and benefit...more than the business building content.

I'm just dwelling on that. I'm really selfish with my time, and often prone to focus on 'fixing things' instead of caring for people. Learning, learning...always learning.
I love hearing that kind of thing. If we are the body our feet should be moving, our voices should be speaking, our hands should be reaching. And they reached all the way out in the country for you.

I, too, am humbled everytime I hand over a shawl to someone I've knitted them for. Whether it be tears, smiles, huge emotion...just whatever the reaction, I always feel so humbled that got would use the gift he gave me to knit to help his folks.
