Theodore Roosevelt:
"There are many kinds of success in life worth having. It is exceedingly interesting and attractive to be a successful business man, or railroad man, or farmer, or a successful lawyer or doctor, or a writer, or a president, or a ranchman, or the colonel of a fighting regiment, or to kill grizzly bears and lions. But for unflagging interest and enjoyment, a household of children, if things go reasonably well, certainly makes all other forms of success and achievement lose their importance by comparison."

Wow, that last sentence is packed! I'm glad he had the humor to throw in "if things go reasonably well"!
I know not all folks feel called to a 'household of children,' and there are equal endeavors of worth and blessing. But yeah...I sure am amazingly grateful. And grateful for our church body to help influence our kids.
I sure don't have a house full, but I wonder if it applies to a classroom full of children, as well? Just thinking about that yesterday when "Johnny" was wearing his two-sizes-too- big shirt inside out because he got himself ready for school since his mom is in the hospital with alcohol poisoning. Oh yeah, he's in Kindergarten. He's 5.
I held his hand as we walked to recess. Pretty insignificant in the Fortune 500 world, but not in Johnny's world. No comparison for me.
oh Brenda! i LOVE the comparison, and think that Johnny would say you reached into his world and loved him in a way no one else did that day. thanks for intentionally loving those kids in your classroom. what a gift you are to them . . .
