Would that humility were simply a blessing bestowed on us from our heavenly Father as is the breath of life. For that matter, all the godly and Christlike attributes. And yes, while at times we may experience a brief anointing of the spirit that enables us to see ourselves as we really are, it seems our god deems it necessary that we find our character through experience. Moses, Abraham, Jacob, Job, David, Solomon, and Sampson (just to name a few) all at some point during their journey with their creator thought more highly of themselves than they ought. This erroneous vaunting of ones' self, even now of ourselves, only enables and gives way to great failure, suffering, and pain due to the chasm of separation from the holy one it creates. And yet, as successes in our life grow, we allow ourselves to travel down this dangerous road, if only in our minds. Let us not give in to the lie that any wonderful, good, and beautiful thing comes from anywhere but the hand of the father that we may avoid self-deceit and experience the joy of humility.
