Do You Sponsor a Child Through Compassion International?

If you sponsor a child with Compassion International, we'd love to hear from you!
We are having a Compassion Sunday on May 24 and we would like to
know who you are. Please call Renee or Angel at the church office at 687-9444,
or call Kay Smiley at 687-8717 or email kay815@earthlink.net. You can also leave a comment on this discussion.

We do. But we don't do a very good job. We write very infrequently, and post his pictures on the fridge.
I have sponsored two, one of which was released form the program last year but I still sponsor kayla...what would you like to know?? :)
We decided years ago to sponsor as many children as we had of our own. (In fact, we started before we had kids. Who knew we'd have so many!?!) Since then, two of them have graduated and some have moved out of Compassion-sponsored areas. At the current time, we are down to three. Like Steve, we aren't as good as we'd hoped at writing them and keeping in touch. They continue to be faithful about writing us, though.
We do! We recently got a letter stating that her circumstances have changed and she no longer needs sponsorship, so will miss communicating with her! We'll begin sponsoring another child soon. We also sponsor a child through World Vision.
I started sponsoring about 13 years ago. I sponsored several boys in succession, but they would move out of a Compassion area. The last boy I sponsored stayed several years. It was good to get a new picture every year to see how he grew. I pray that the foundation he had guides his life.
Last summer, I decided to to support a child again - this time a girl. I picked her out of several child packets. I liked her dimples, the saucy way she smiled and posed for the camera with her hands on her hips. She looked like she was 9 years old going on 30! There are four children in the family; I don't know if she is the oldest, but she looks capable of anything. I finally sent her my first letter a few months ago. I need to send another one with a picture.
Thank you to everyone who has replied so far! I am a child advocate for Compassion and we will be having a Compassion Sunday on May 24th. Please mark your calendars. The planning is in process---would any of you like to work at the tables where we'll have child packets? Or would anyone like to give a 10-15 second testimony about what sponsorship has meant to you? Nancy, this will be a wonderful opportunity to see many beautiful faces and decide if you are ready to sponsor again! I'm so happy to hear all your stories.
We've sponsored a little boy in Haiti for several years now. He is the same age as our youngest son, so we have a good idea of his size and are reminded to pray for him. The kids all take turns writing to him, and we enjoy reading his letters and praying for him.
We do now! We just found precious little Nancy Nchangwa, from Tanzania, last Sunday. She is 4 years old; right between Ian & Canyon. We are working on a family letter to her, and are so excited to have 'added' her to our hearts & our family. I'm already dreaming of being able to go visit her someday, hopefully when we finally get to visit Kevin's brother Jared, who lives & works in Rwanda (www.keza.com).
Oh - I love Diana's idea of sponsoring as many kids as we have of our own...tho we would need to add six more now...
RESULTS OF COMPASSION SUNDAY
17 children were sponsored! We estimate that now 50 families at WPCC are sponsoring about 60 children throughout the developing world. I'm in tears thinking about your generous hearts, and what a beautiful way to disciple for Jesus! These children now have hope and their precious lives will be transformed. Keep posted for future letter writing parties- as letters are immensely important to these little ones. They absolutely love getting pictures of you too! Praise God for you!
