the above link will take you to a recent USA today article.

what do you think? Not sure this was the real intention of how Jesus designed His bride?
Sound great!
How sustainable is this?
What about those inside the church?
Seems like an extreme reaction to a problem across the country fo church's not giving away.

sort of makes my heart ache in a strange way....I suppose it's a longing from deep within.
Let's do it. Anyone know 8 people who could pitch in for our overhead so we can give everything else away? That would be sweet>
this is a very progressive and refreshing concept –
we could call it extreme because the thought has moved from the ordinary into the extraordinary.
what seems to work in terms of the concept's sustainability is placing accountability in the form of strategic sponsorships as well as pro-activity by directly engaging the community and asking the fundamental question: what is our community lacking? this seems to be all encompassing: within and outside the church.

I appreciate their maverick and out-of-the box thinking. very powerful and inspirational minds, and hearts at work here.

Well, I have many friends who are full time in churches and ministries...and whose work there profoundly impacts people. And of course biblically we have some precedent for supporting our church leaders.

On the other hand I've contemplated a 'lay-church' where nobody is paid. Tons of holes to poke in the concept, but so are there in the current model.

I'm reading a great book right now (for the second time), "Against The Wind" by K.P. Yohannan who heads up Gospel for Asia. He talks a lot about those who are 'called' in to ministry. But that doesn't make sense to me. As Christians, aren't we all? And isn't it obvious that the current church model has lots of 'jobs' in it that are filled by folks who surely aren't called?

Man, big can of worms for me here. I don't have a definitive answer at all, but I think it's a worthy topic where the discussion is increasingly going to be forced.

It will take some thick-skinned folk to do it though...
Kevin...."lay-church"...visit any Plymouth Brethren Assembly.
I like to think of it as "Leigh-church".
